Presenting your own poetry in front of others can be a different experience from simply writing it. Reflect on your experience sharing your poem with the class. What was the most challenging part of presenting your work, and how did you feel about allowing others to hear something you created? -10/23/2026
Prompt Response: Sharing my poem with others completely shifted the experience from a private creative hobby of mine to a nerve-wracking moment ever. The most challenging part of presenting my work wasn't standing up in front of the classroom as a whole, but rather the intense pressure of reading it with my ex sitting right there in the audience. Because the poem was about my celebrity crush, sharing themes of love and attraction felt incredibly awkward with them listening to every word after the pain he caused me after the breakup. Allowing others and specifically my ex to hear something I created made me feel deeply self-conscious, as if my personal feelings were under a microscope. However, pushing through the discomfort and delivering the lines anyway ultimately gave me a surprising sense of relief and ownership over my own creative voice.
Summary: Today in class we presented our poem that we worked on last week.
Reflection: After reading my poem out loud today it made me a little nervous and a little bit confident since it was my first time reading one of my own poems out loud. It also made me realized that everyone has their own creative ideas and we should just listen.
